Powerful Writing seminar is a custom-designed workshop that helps business people communicate clear, focused, and compelling messages to specific audiences in technical and business documents and emails.
Each seminar is tailored to respond to a business unit’s need. Participants are requested to submit writing samples before the workshop. Samples are used in class to demonstrate specific issues in writing, organization, sentence structure, word choice, and tone. The instructor e-mails feedback to all participants on their written work.
Strategic Communication seminar is a custom-designed interactive workshop on how to think strategically and be persuasive to different audiences. The focus is on how to analyze and audience’s “currency”: productivity, profitability, or prestige, and to adapt persuasive pitches based on a speaker’s relationship with the audience.
Participants are requested to submit in advance a persuasive presentation that “failed.” Failure can be defined in different ways: for instance, the inability to achieve a goal, poor non-verbal communication, lack of clear understanding of an audience. Follow-up private meetings reinforce skills demonstrated in class.
Speaking Up seminar is an interactive seminar for junior business people who need to be empowered to take more of an active role in meetings, calls, and pitches. The focus is on enhancing listening skills, analyzing audiences, improving tone, structuring appropriately and presenting with strong non-verbal communication.
Before the class participants are asked to send emails and leave voice mail messages to a mock potential client. Examples are used in class to show what scenarios are most effective. In-class exercises focus on understanding audiences’ needs and enhancing professional style to be more compelling.
